Apriso dosage?

Yes, apriso is typically a once a day medication, as is lialda/mezvant. Sometimes, I'll see it split to twice a day by some doctors, not consistent though.

Yes! I am on Apriso and have the same dosage - 4 pills/day.
I take them all at once and have never had any side effects/issues.
The pills are large, so I swallow them one at a time with a lot of water.

My daughter saw a new GI Dr and he is increasing her Apriso from 4 pills/day to 12 pills/day. Has anyone ever taken that many ? She is presently on Prednisone 5 mg taper for a recent flare. He is also putting her on Curcumin too. He also ordered VSL #3 DS, but insurance does not cover it. Guess we will have to buy VSL3# sachets at Costco.

Aspiro had 0.375 grams of mesalamine in each tablet. If you take 12, that is 4.5 grams. Many people take upto 4.8 grams a day using other tablets. I take 4 Lialda a day, and each has 1.2 grams, so that totals to 4.8.

So no problem with 12 pills. They are extended release, so are designed for once a day, but you could spread them out 6 wit breakfast and 6 with lunch.

The VSL#3 at Costco is 1/2 the strength of VSL#3 DS. Otherwise it is the same. Don't start taking full dose on 1st day. Taper up or you may get bad gas and extra D.

Wait. Apriso dosage is much, much lower than other mesalamines. Clinical studies showed low doses of apriso (1.5 grams a day is a typical dose) being equivalent to much higher doses of asacol.

this is interesting information. there are very few studies comparing 5-asa drugs to each other. Most compare a particular drug to a placebo.

I would be keen to look at these studies if you have any refs. no worry if you don't.

My larger point was that 1.5g is a maintenance dose. it is lower than the usual maintenance dose of Lialda (2.4g), but 1.2g is also a maintenance dose of Lialda.

I was just asking on the change in grams of mesalamine. Common wisdom is that except for delivery method all these drugs are the same in terms of active ingredient. I can see how more or less might needed to do the job if the ideal release point is hit or missed. I have just never seen these studies. I would be interested.
