Diarrhea after flexible sigmoidoscopy.... Normal?

Hey there.

So I had my flexible sigmoidoscopy today and I had an enema to prep for it. First ever time. I was a bit concerned as usually I'm more C than D and I think I was a bit constipated at the time. However the stuff REALLY worked and weirdly it felt like I still had to keep going but couldn't at the time. Apparently tho, I was clear so they did the flexible sigmoidoscopy fine and apparently everything was normal. (so unless anything is further up I'm guessing the diagnosis will be IBS.

Anyway since the sigmoidoscopy I've had some diarrhea still even tho I thought I was cleared out. It's quite watery and tho I'm not desperate it still isn't what's normal for me obviously.

How do I get my bowels back to my normal state and is having D after an enema prep normal? Im a bit panicky as I still feel a bit crampy in the abdomen so wanted to make sure it was all good.

Also is it normal to feel the camera thing when it's inside occasionally? Unless it was gas I could swear I felt something bump against my abdomen inside me...

big difference between brown and red.

if it is mucus (thick) instead of liquid, then it says IBD not IBS.

if it is red/blood not brown, that says ulceration

I think you D will stop after your system settles down. But unless the blood it temporary and caused by the flex sig, I think you need a full scope.

Ah... It's weird because the particles don't look particularly red or brown... Somewhere in the middle. The mucus is clear though.

They decided sedation would not be worthwhile as it was literally a 10 minute procedure.. I was really hoping for it as I was anxious beyond belief but am kind of glad I endured it. No biopsies as everything they saw in the sigmoid and rectum was normal.

But I still get mucus and inflammation so it's a bit confusing. Still, I need to get my blood test results back somehow from my ESR markers and so on. For some reason they didn't have the results from the gastro department so I need to find out what they are. Unfortunately my follow up appt isn't until February.

Yeah I've been having some cramping pain tonight along with the mucus tho. I imagine a lot of it is gas tho.

So does mucus generally indicate IBD as IBS tends to cause mucus as a symptom too?

I do probably still need a full scope and will discuss options in Feb. Maybe will have to book a cheap hotel room if it comes to it but I'm a bit strapped for cash right now. Would like to make sure the rest of my colon is normal or whether I'm having colitis from higher up.

Ah, yeah. That makes sense. I think it would be good to have some biopsies done and I was supposed to but because it was apparently normal they didn't take any. I'll see what the gastro suggests when I go for my follow-up next month.

Well, still got stomach-ache pains, but I think it's from constipation more than anything as I've found it difficult to go.

I imagine a tear or complications from the flexible sigmoidoscopy would cause a lot more obvious symptoms right? (forever paranoid!! )

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention my D stopped though and I did manage to pass a small bowel movement earlier (not much but still something) so that's a relief!

Thanks haha. I guess I'm just worrying and it's probably exacerbating my symptoms tbh! I'm having some pain in transverse colon, splenic flexure (pain radiating to back?) and in my lower abdomen and rectum... Bit weird really but I think I have quite bad constipation. Gonna have to take something to get things moving soon I think!

Could be gas pains of course, I can imagine it being a bit spasmodic like that!
