The high carb diet of prisoners

That prison diet consists mostly of processed food. But some foreign prisons serve an even more bland diet consisting mostly of beans and rice with a few vegetables. Again very little meat but probably much more healthy.

I consider Nelson Mandela a modern day saint who should never have been incarcerated. But I was amazed how healthy Nelson Mandela looked at age 72 when he was freed from prison after being behind bars for 27 years. He lived to be 95 years old.

That food looks pretty dire, but I don't have much time for these Morgan Spurlock-wannabes, who all seem to have the constitution of a fussy siamese cat fed on cream and salmon. Can't they get people with hardier constitutions to do these ad hoc experiments? Morgan Spurlock was a vegan IIRC, and thus his results weren't typical - or reproducible.

Also, while I certainly don't love being on a bland diet - in fact I hate it - it's about the only one which doesn't cause me a world of pain.
