Just heard about great results for MS sufferers treated with chemotherapy and stem cells to reboot the immune system. Wonder whether it has wider relevance for UC sufferers? Any hope better than none! Catherine UK

Not sure about UC but for those with Crohn's or maybe an between or 'unsure' diagnosis very recently this was posted on the PZM website.

Stem cell therapy not significantly better than conventional treatment for Crohn's disease:

Will be interesting to see what happens when they do a larger MS study or more studies in the future.

As you say though, any hope is better than none so hopefully something positive will come from it all in the future. These things take time I guess.

It's always good to have more options for IBD but I'm guessing the efficacy of stem cell therapy being no better than current treatment options is because the root cause really is MAP and MAP-like bacteria that trigger the immune response, which in turn starts destroying the mucosal wall (and beyond in Crohns).
