Glen Frey's death was a very sad and horrible event for his family and the music world. However, I've been noticing the big impact it has had on awareness of UC and RA. I have had a large amount of phone calls and emails from people that knew I had UC, but as much as I tried explaining that UC is autoimmune, they just didn't get what UC is. Now many friends and family say they "get it" after reading the many news stories about
what happened to poor Glen Frey. A family member said recently "wow, you can die from this, huh?", they never knew I had a serious disease.
It seems Glen Frey has surgery and many complications due to his illnesses and had a horrible time in his last days, but my hope is that something good comes from his death, namely that people finally "get it". RIP Glen condolences and much empathy to his family.

Spreading awareness is always good.

Did you clarify that complications and possible death can happen with any disease for many different reasons? It's not a disease known for high mortality rate.
Plus GF had lots of stuff going on....actually, i don't understand why the focus on just UC.

I think it's great that people become aware and it seems people pay greater attention to whatever is going on when it affects famous people. When I tell people I have UC, so many of them have no idea what that even is.
I don't think the focus was just on Frey's UC. There was a lot mentioned about
his RA and previous diverticulitis. However, I am glad that UC was in the mix (not for Glenn may he rest in peace, but for the awareness it is bringing).

None of my friends or family correlated to his passing to what I have. Mainly because he died of many other complications that I don't have. It's an extreme loss for us all, he was a musical genius, but I hope that the general population can now (hopefully) understand how serious this condition is, that it will raise more awareness.

@ Quincy, obviously it's a big deal when a disease thats usually not discussed in "polite" company is being discussed all over the world, how could you not understand that? More awareness leads to better understanding, think about
it...

They just said he had UC or complications or from the medications....i haven't seen any sordid details about
it that wouldn't be spoken in polite company.
No...i can't see how this specific situation brings it to light. I see it as he had a multitude of issues that many people have.
We have no idea what he was like as a patient, what meds he was on, when he started taking them, what the complications were....etc.
To me, it's a sound-bite with not enough details....as usual.
I'm not impressed by the fact that he was a famous person, I'd be more impressed if there was more information.
Remember...this is my opinion. ...subjective..... not important to influence whether you are impressed by it or think it's a good thing.

I'm not sure why this post has gotten so out of hand. I, for one, have been very affected by what has happened to Glenn Frey. I know others have been as well. Not because he was famous, but because it hits close to home. Even though we have no idea the specifics of what drugs he was on, what type of patient he was, etc., etc., that is really secondary and irrelevant to me. For all I know, there are many posters on here who are non-compliant in a treatment plan, yet I feel for them all the same when they suffer. Even though the mortality rate is low for UC, it doesn't mean it's non-existent. It was scary to hear of this and I am glad it is getting publicity because I think awareness can only be a good thing. Quincy, it does seem to me that you are bothered by the attention that his death is causing and I'm not sure why then even bother to engage in this post about
it.

I had to delete several posts for fighting. Reminder folks, there's an Ignore button for a reason, so if there's a user who's just getting to you then it's preferable to use that Ignore button rather than fight.
