Dear All,
I seem to catch the flu more frequently and it stays much longer these days. This is the 2nd bout within 2 months. Before this, I'd rarely catch the flu. I'm on UCERIS (steroid) which is supposed to act locally in gut, with smaller widespread effects. As a teacher, it's hard to avoid people too. It's been 3 days of 100+F temperature, reaching 102F on one day.
I'm trying to take in as much fluid as possible, but I'm already exhausted.

How long have you been on uceris?
And have you noticed other systemic side effects?

I started it 5 days ago. I see on my pill bottle a sticker which says "This medicine may lower your ability to fight off infections. Avoid contact with people who have contagious diseases."

I, too, work with the public daily. I would love to hear how you have done in general with the Uceris.

Dear Songlady, I've been OK with uceris otherwise. It's far better than the prednisone that I used to take a few years ago. I also take canasa suppositories which together keep things in check most of the time. But I do get very frequent headaches which I think are from small eruptions in the gut.
It's day 5 of fever at 100F and I'm quite exhausted. Also, I have to teach tomorrow so I'm in a panic.

You should go to urgent care but be careful if they peddle antibiotics if the dont actually test for bacterial infection. You might get peace of mind before tomorrow

If it's any consolation, my trusty pharmacist caught the bug last week. She said that dozens of patients had been coming by--coughing & sneezing in her direction when they picked up Rx meds. Our weather has ranged from extremely cold (-1o F., for example) to mid-50os within a few days, which seems to wear people out & then they get sick. Does Tylenol help your fever? (I hope so!) / Old Hat (35 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Tylenol does bring the fever down. I just manage to keep below 'overdosing' though because as soon as the tylenol effect wears off, the fever comes on and hovers around 100-101F. Do UCers and/or uceris-takers shed the infection slower than others?

Maybe you could add L-Lysine to your supplement list.
There's also Sisu Ester C Beta Glucans.

If you do get the flu often, maybe you should ask your doc for an antiviral to take when you get it. Have you been swabbed?
Have you had a thorough blood testing to find out if something else is going on?
