Has anyone responded to Humira when Remicade didn't help?

I was just wondering if there is anyone who did not respond to Remicade but then tried Humira and actually
responded to it? Since both drugs are similar, I didn't know if it would be worth a try. Thank you for your
response.

I am pretty sure we have members who have responded. I didn't respond to 2 TNF blockers in a row and I guess after 2, it is seen as a failure generally. I could have tried Humira, after Simponi and Remicade, but I didn't bother. I would definitely give another a try if I were you.

Did you try a higher dose of Remicade? Did you get antibodies checked?

I started with Simponi and when I didn't respond, my GI thought perhaps the standard dose of Simponi wasn't enough for me. You can't control the doses of Humira or Simponi because it's a subcutaneous injection. Remicade has more flexibility in dosing. I didn't have an inkling of a response with either drug unfortunately - even at double dose.

My daughter has indeterminate colitis (her GI said he can make a case for either Crohn's or UC). She is a
non-responder, even prednisone seems to have quit working for her. I was just wondering if Humira might
be worth a try, but I forgot until you mentioned it, she did try Simponi and it didn't help. So the odds are
not in her favor. She is considering surgery because she has decided that this no way to live. I was just
trying to make sure she has considered all the options. Thanks so much for your reply.

It's truly a toss up with the tnf inhibitors! I'd definitely try it and see because what have you got to lose?

I responded to remicade and then failed. Humira made me really sick. Simponi has been great for my UC. Each drug had a different chemical composition so one might work better in your body than the other.

Husband responded well to remicade for a few months but then developed antibodies. At GI's suggestion then tried Humira. Tried it for about 6 months. It did not work, but he didn't experience any side effects from it. Then tried entyvio, which is a different type of biologic than remicade/humira. It did not work at all, but it does work for some. It was important for him to feel that he had tried the various available biologics before concluding that surgery is the best path forward. A couple of other biologics are in the pipeline -- clinical testing for Stelara for UC patients recently started (after some success with Crohns patients) and Xeljanz is working its way through clinical testing as well.

Scheduled for Step 1 of 3 for j pouch surgery next month. Tired of feeling lousy and being on prednisone.

I also post on the ostomy forum quite a bit. I found it to be extremely helpful going through all this. Much less bickering over there too.
