Last week my GI finally made the call that Entyvio had failed for me and it was time to start meeting with surgeons. I have an appointment at Cleveland Clinic next week and am seeing a local surgeon in a few days.

However I got a call from my GI this morning saying my lab results came back and I'm positive for c. diff. He thinks that could have had a lot to do with how severe my symptoms have been, and the reason why I haven't made an progress in remission. But he said to go ahead and keep my appointments with the surgeons.

I'm not sure if anyone has experience with c diff, and if you could tell me how long it takes for the antibiotics to kick in. Also at the hospital my friend works at they quarantine c diff patients, so I'm confused why my doctor is acting like it's not that big of a deal.. Are there different strains?

I've had C-Diff a few times and have been quarantined in the hospital. Generally you should start to feel better in about 3 -4 days after starting the antibiotic and probably have a 10 to 14 day course. I would definitely load up on probiotics as well.

The Quarantine is for the other patients in the hospital, infants and the elderly C.Diff could be deadly. If you are in decent health then C.diff is bad but treatable. Over the past few years they have developed some better antibiotics for it and also FMT.

Which antibiotics did they prescribe? Vanco? if they did then you should start to feel better in about 3 days but you'll still have some symptoms. Sometimes we have to go on it for 2 course to knock all of the C.diff out, you'll also want to be retested for it after you complete the antibiotics.

I would also add that adding a probiotic like Florastor is highly recommended to help treat it and keep it from re-occuring.
