OT British Uc-ers

TV here predicting narrow win for in...a few hours to go...

Strongly in.

Remain are currently ahead at the moment, but that's only 'cos the London votes have started coming in. It's been like a car crash in slow motion that I can't avert my eyes from, but I'm going to go to bed soon. No point in staying up all night only to see Leave win anyway.

It's bad right now, I hope the Britts stay. The Pound is currently the lowest vs the US Dollar since 1995.


Didn't see this one coming, I hope they remain votes wins out.

I proudly voted Leave yesterday and I won't be shamed into feeling bad about it.
I have seen the bad side of the EU - the side that doesn't care, the side that will let a country keep digging a hole it has no chance of getting out of, a side that will even chip in to make that hole bigger to make sure they stay.
The EU will still trade with us, only now we can open trade deals with the rest of the World, now we can be answerable purely to our own laws.
EU citizens in the UK won't be forcibly removed, nor will those claiming asylum etc.
I am not a racist, xenophobe or brainless '****wit', I am proud of what the majority of people in this country have voted for, and I will not apologise for standing by my beliefs.
The EU has done nothing for us, it has restricted the UK and it's citizens for years, it has brought other countries to their knees, and the ONLY reason Brussels wanted the UK to vote Remain was to keep the 'Union' together, something which now seems impossible. The Euro is in crisis and is failing in all but the richest economies, migration is in crisis, a future in the EU is as uncertain as a future out of it, the difference being now, when the EU/eurozone does collapse, the UK won't be expected to bolster it up.
Please don't underestimate the power and strength of out small island, we only ever had one foot in the EU anyway - thankfully we kept our GBP. Please remember, we were strong, independent and successful before the EU, and can and will be again. We have the chance now to put the 'Great' back into Britain.

And if rain can keep people away - then they should be ashamed of themselves, my little 82 year old Nan went out in her wellies and got soaked through, stood in the rain for 1 hour & 10minutes, but still managed to cast her vote. The weather is a poor excuse to have not voted - especially when polling stations stayed open later to allow people who stayed away because of the rain to vote into the evening.

it was the first thing i checked in the morning, very sad for me because we have a super idiotic nationalistic government who is hoping for the same, so now they are absolutely blooming. On the other hand, if i were British, i really don't know how i would vote. I spent a weekend in London last year and fortunately my hotel was right in the centre because i was was afraid to use the public transport, bourkas everywhere, i think this country is slowly going down. I have no desire to return to London (although i love that city), neither to go to France. i think that the whole Europe will fall apart soon

I agree with aimz, short term maybe a disaster but long term definitely a blessing. I suspected all along that the Brexit vote might be larger than expected. We got a similar taste here in the U.S. with Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders surprising everyone by coming out of nowhere to attract so much support.

Free trade doesn't bring prosperity except for the one-percenters who profit from cheap foreign labor. Look at the Asian Tigers like Japan, Korea, China, and Malaysia: they all jump started their economies and manufacturing base with “protectionism”. Show me a country that actually listens and believes the IMF and World Bank propaganda promoting globalization and “Free Trade”, and I'll show you an economic basket case.

We don't need to hear from ivory tower economists paid by the one-percenters to justify outsourcing of working class jobs. I am glad England voted out of the E.U., for its own long term prosperity.

It seems the UK is a continuation of populist nationalism, fear, and isolation that's sweeping the world over. People are generally unhappy and candidates on the fringe are getting a boost. Usually the benefactors are more conservative candidates. What bothers me is the wiffs of xenophobia that fuel them in some countries as "the other" is an easy scapegoat but not the true cause of our troubles.

I'm sure UK's vote is more complex than that as a whole. Just noting trends all over. Historically, these kinda trends lead up to big conflicts.

Sorry to hear you felt scared to go out of the centre of London Ewa. There's no need, it's as safe as any city, safer than some from my own experience of travelling. Women in Burkas are not dangerous, in fact, given the rise in islamophobia, if anyone is at risk on public transport, they are. Much of the revolt came from areas that had not traditionally seen immigration and now are with very high numbers of East European workers. Many Brits are upset by high streets full of Polish etc, shops in areas that never saw such a thing before, many tradesmen are angry about undercutting by Eastern European workers who settle for a lower standard of living and can hide cash more easily by sending it back abroad. We all need to be less scared of each other. Our politicians did such a poor job of explaining what Europe does for us and dismissed the concerns of those who do not like the change in their environment and are hurt by job competition, it's their voices that have been heard loud and clear now.

A lot of Leavers are saying, we are happy we won't have laws made by faceless bureaucrats in Brussels we can't vote for. They have little understanding of the way lawmaking works in their own country, they don't vote for Civil Servants in the Ministries but kid themselves they have influence over them.

Hello Brexiters. What did you think would happen if you voted Leave, that the EU was going to carry on giving you money indefinitely? Good luck in getting that £600 million from the UK government; it'll be spending all the money it saves on EU membership on trying to prevent a recession, not going into your deprived region.

The entire Leave campaign was founded on lies, which are already coming home to roost.

Hope the far right in France don't follow.

The world is becoming an increasingly unpleasant place ... The concept of nation is not one I want to be associated with. Fear and racism abound. We are all people sharing one world ... We are a blip in its existence ... We own nothing - some of us are just more fortunate in where we were born. That's not ownership!
