I've been having what seems to be bad joint pain. For those of you who have joint pain can you describe what it feels like for you. It seems mine radiates throughout my whole limb, it's very uncomfortable and painful.

What medications are you taking? You might want to post your current meds on your signature in "My Profile" Are you flaring? And yes joint pain is an extra-intestinal symptom of UC.

When my joints ache it seems to be acute and localized within the joint itself. Yours sounds more like muscle pain (another symptom). When I'm heading into a flare joint pain is often my first sign. Be well soon!

Ulcerative colitis is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of the large intestine. Joint pain is usually inflammation of the joints also caused by the immune system. Inflammation of the joints is known as arthritis and it can occur at any age. Joint pain is a common extra-intestinal compliant of uc patients. These pains can be linked to uc flares, worse when we flare and disappear/reduce when in remission.

Some uc medications also treat joint pains, like sulfasalazine (equivalent to mesalamine, asacol, lialda). Biologics like remicade are also good for both.

The pain can radiate, as you describe, or can cause stiffness in the limb, and hurts more with increased weight put on it. The skin above affected joint may also feel hot. Apart from extra-systemic manifestation of UC inflammation, vitamin/mineral deficiency can make a UCer's joints more susceptible to pain-- so be sure you're getting enough calcium & vitamin D daily. / Old Hat (35 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Affirming above replies, it could be EIM of UC, which is very common. It could be symptomatic of other conditions (for example arthritis, lupus). You could see a rheumatologist for a diagnostic work up, as well as a neurologist.

have you been on steroids recently?

what are your meds? often inflammation can cause joint pain, is it on both sides?

I've seen a neuro and everything was fine. Blood was good no lupus emg looked good

I see that you are on steroids
those might be the culprit- they can cause joint issues
are you dealing with any active inflammation?

So that actually isn't updated I'm currently on mesalamine 4x and hydrocortisone enemas. My flare has gotten better. I will just have certain days where my joints and muscles ache, could it be a potential food allergen?
