Natof9: thanks for your response. You said you'd like to be off all meds before you start the juice cleanse. Do you discontinue medication while you are in remission? That's my current goal, which is fully supported and encouraged by my GI. I actually started medication for the first time during my pregnancy. I've been fortunate enough to remain in remission without meds since my diagnosis in 2010.
I have a follow up appointment with my GI in a few weeks, so I will run everything by him then.
Yeah that's the end goal for me. Everyone will have their medical/personal opinions, but the UC community I have in Toronto is so positive and supportive, I witness and encounter many IBDers who have been successful in their lifestyle changes- in remission for years, healthier and happier than ever etc. I mean, if I was a medical professional who ONLY specialized/studied in conventional western therapies I'd obviously recommend what I only know and what's been approved in my field. Stay on meds for the rest of your life because it's proven to do this or that....But if I am adding other therapies and measures that are also proven to help, why should I keep myself to the original equation? (The equation being: a patient suffering UC only relying on limited therapies with limited results vs a patient in clinical remission relying on multiple therapies that work for them) Honestly I know I'm young and new to this disease but if down the road I happen to flare up again despite all my efforts, then I learn a new lesson- but for now I have the luxury and privilege to test it out. Just my perspective.
