The recommendation was reasonable. In a better scenario, the doc would have called to ask more about the pain, or had the nurse inquire so as to establish that it seemed more like muscle pain than the kind of septic pain you get from perforation.
The thing is if you don't get a muscle relaxer you are in some pain. IF you have a perforation you could die from sepsis within hours. ... So the recommendation was very reasonable.
After my perforation, I was sent to surgery within hours, yet I was still in the ICU on massive doses of antibiotics for 10 days until they knew I was going to live. Any question of perforation has to be taken very seriously.
