Is this a perforation or side effect of succinylcholine/anesthesia?

I woke up from anesthesia yesterday in a lot of pain, muscle pain all over. The anesthesiologist said it was probably a side effect of the succinylcholine for the endescopy. I had to have general anesthesia because the last time I tried to have an endescopy I was waking up and trying to pull out the tube. I also had a colonoscopy. I woke up in even more pain today and called my GI to see if she could prescribe somethings for it like a muscle relaxer. I feel like I was in a car accident it hurts so bad. I'm really frustrated because when I finally got a call back the nurse said I should go to the ER to be checked for a perforation. The last thing I want to do or feel is necessary is going to the ER to sit and probably wait for hours and potentially unnecessary tests. If it was a perforation wouldn't I actually be having stomach pain? My throat is sore from the tube that was stuck down it but I have all over muscle pain from my calves to my neck. Anyone have this type of pain? Did anything help? How long did it last? Thank you!

A response like this from my GI would make me find another GI, non-response, no care for their patient.
It is normal to be under anesthesia for a c-scope and if you have pain afterwards your GI should be in contact with you even if it is due to anesthesia. But who knows why you have pain because at this point it's anyone's guess.
This kind of impersonal treatment is abominable.

Perhaps the office is concerned about RX'ing pain meds due to general abuse but not to talk with you sucks.
I never had any pain after c-scope, loved the anesthesia (propofol). My hubby woke up during his first one but asked for propofol for the 2nd one and out like a light with no side effects either.

The recommendation was reasonable. In a better scenario, the doc would have called to ask more about the pain, or had the nurse inquire so as to establish that it seemed more like muscle pain than the kind of septic pain you get from perforation.

The thing is if you don't get a muscle relaxer you are in some pain. IF you have a perforation you could die from sepsis within hours. ... So the recommendation was very reasonable.

After my perforation, I was sent to surgery within hours, yet I was still in the ICU on massive doses of antibiotics for 10 days until they knew I was going to live. Any question of perforation has to be taken very seriously.

Hi Ginger, I'm a nurse anesthetist and what the anesthesiologist said is likely. When succinylcholine is given, it causes all of your muscles to fasciculate (spontaneous contraction) so it is very possible that is why you hurt all over. I once had a patient tell his surgeon on his first post-op visit that he felt like he had been beaten all over his body with a baseball bat. In the future, let anesthesia know because they can pre-treat you with another IV medication when you're going to sleep that will prevent or decrease the soreness. I would consider calling the anesthesia department and speaking with someone.
