From the paper:
"Despite the once wide use of traditional European herbals, modern science has barely started to scientifically explore this treasure"
The authors compared how many citations there are for TCM Traditional Chinese medicine) compared to very few for TEM (Traditional European Medicine).
I am not an expert in this at all but have read that Germany is much more "pro-herbal" than many other countries and regulates them, which is far preferable to the US free-for-all supplement industry.
My genes are 99% European and guess that they would be more likely to respond to herbs my Euro ancestors used but who knows, we all came from Africa at the start.
European countries with socialized medicine have an incentive to learn and use non-Pharma medicines simply from a cost standpoint. I use herbs daily, cooking mainly but also tea and supplements, and of course love growing them myself.
