Chronic proctitis Vs ulcerative proctitis

Is there any difference between chronic proctitis and ulcerative proctitis? Are they same? Biopsy results come out differently with different doctors. So confusing.

I would have said they were the same at the biopsy level. If there is some known allergy, or pathogen, or irritant, then it could be chronic proctitis. But UP is just chronic roctitis without any known cause - except a diagnosis of IDB

Honestly, I was diagnosed with "proctitis" when I was 16 but still have no idea what kind!! My doctor never told me and I just assumed proctitis meant ulcerative proctitis.

Obviously, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis eventually around age 20 so it must've been ulcerative procitis from the start.

Thanks . There was a glimmer of hope when the biopsy read as chronic proctitis. It is ulcerative proctitis then :(

Proctitis simply means inflammation of the rectum. The additional words around it classify the underlying cause, prognosis, and treatment. So, Ulcerative Proctitis is the autoimmune variety (a type of ulcerative colitis). A chronic infectious colitis might be a bacterial, viral or other cause that hasn't been fully treated yet.

It's a pathology question for your gastroenterologist with the colonoscopy and biopsy slides, and all test and report results on the table before you both. What is the cause? What exactly was seen? Is it more infectious or more characteristic of an autoimmune deficiency/disorder? How does all of your test results (including stool tests) add up to your diagnosis? Is there any gray area unknowns that make my diagnosis uncertain?

There's not a diagnosis with the biopsies, per se, there is a consistent with....and the specialist will make that determination and diagnosis based on the pathology.

Basically, if everything has been crossed off the list of pathogen, microscopic colitis, viral, bacterial, sexually transmitted, cancer, etc....usually ulcerative or crohns can be an end result.

Doctor said , while doing the scope , he could see some scars and they do not look like scars from UP and UP/UC does not leave scars after healing. He said that I must have had only proctitis and not ulcerative proctitis. The biopsy came out as chronic proctitis. This is the third scope in a span of six months. The first one came out as UC, second one read mild proctitis and the third one reads chronic proctitis. I did the first colonoscopy when I had 4 semi-solid BMs per day for two months . I did not bleed during those two months and after that too. So could it be just proctitis and not UP as there is no blood ? Three scopes and three different biopsies. I am confused about my next step. Doctor says I can stop taking the medicines as scar is a sign that ulcers have healed. I am scared to stop the medicines as proctitis progresses to become ulcerative colitis. If it has healed then why does the biopsy say chronic proctitis. Should it not read as "Normal"?

Can anybody throw light on this please?
