I suggest you see an endocrinologist if you are still feeling lousy. Your adrenal glands are not working.
My husband was (is) on prednisone for over 3 years now. Started to taper what he (and his GI) thought was a slow taper of about 2.5 mg, and then 1 mg, every week or so. When he got down to 0, he was sick like it sounds you are. Saw an endocrinologist who said the taper was way too fast. He ended up having to go back to 10 mg (for other reason - long story) and now is tapering by 1 mg a week every six weeks.
The endocrinologist says that if you are properly tapering (and it is slow!!!), you should not feel the withdrawal symptoms. Doc would probably put you on hydrocortisone which doesn't stay in your system as long as prednisone so it is easier to nudge the adrenal glands. But it could take a super long time.
