What else can I try?

At the end of Sept. I started 6mp and quickly had a raging sore throat which only went away after taking antibiotics. GI wanted m to try 6mp again so I did after I finished the antibiotics and my infection had cleared up. As soon as I tried it again I had the same throat problem so I stopped taking it. I was horribly sick on the antibiotics and I haven't gotten better since. I'm going to the bathroom at least hourly, often with blood which I hadn't had before and I'm waking up 1-2 a night to go as well which is also new. I'd had abdominal discomfort but now it's constant and severe. GI prescribed Uceris which I've been taking for two weeks but nothing has changed. I've told the GI office this but I haven't heard anything back. Any advice?

The only thing I'm on is my monthly Simponi shot but it's never worked for me. GI didn't want me to stop it until I started something else. Rectal meds have never worked for me, methalamines (sp?) seem to make me worse and pred never helped even at high dose for a long time. I'm miserable. I can't do anything like this. I'm a wreck over it and the idea I can't take my kids out for Halloween. I know I need something better for long term but also something to help now. Any ideas? Thank you!!

I can't rec. what RX to try next but consider adding a probiotic because 2 rounds of antibiotics can wipe out your good gut flora. If you can eat yogurt add that in too but a strong probiotic can help. Start with a low dose and up it if no discomfort. A little gas is normal but running D is not good and means stop that probiotic and try a different one. They aren't all the same.

Chances are those antibiotics might have wiped off your gut bacterial flora . Try fixing it by adding prebiotic foods and probiotics. I second what Ima and Soy suggested ...

Kiefer cured my UC. I suffered from really nasty bouts of UC for years without relief from meds or changes in diet. It adversely affected my quality of life daily and I even had to have 2 blood transfusions. about nine months ago, a friend suggested I try drinking kiefer every day, plain or flavored. I did, and I have been UC free ever since. While not a lot of research is out there about the use of kiefer for treating UC, it is recognized that the imbalance of good microbiota in the gut is a major cause. Drinking kiefer replenishes the good bacteria in a way that just taking probiotics cannot. My remission is so complete, I can now eat the foods that once set off my UC, i.e., tomatoes, grapes, apples, bananas. I truly feel for anyone suffering from this condition. I realize everyone's UC is different, but I wanted to share the relief I found with kiefer.

I use Lifeway Kefir from the local grocery store.

Diagnosed in 1996 with UC. My symptoms were mainly intestinal bleeding with swelling. After the 1st transfusion, I was prescribed Asocal but it did nothing. After the second transfusion, I participated in a clinical trial study around 1998 for Colazal with great results and took Colazal intermittently for a few years until appx. 2004 -- it was quite expensive and I believe it could not be taken long term. Basically homeopathic remedies and probiotics after that with limited results. I changed my diet, drank lots of water, used psyllium powder, but it was worsening again. So at least nine months ago, a friend who had been researching gut bacteria, recommended kefir. For me, so far, it's working wonders. I became symptom free almost immediately, but then I drank almost the entire bottle the first time. I now drink a glass daily. It's great--very inexpensive, easy to find, and never goes bad. UC is such an awful, degrading and debilitating disease that Kefir seemed almost too simple a solution. But I hope it will help me remain symptom free the rest of my life.
