What does it mean when you have all solid stool, but minor cramping and occasional urgency?

What does it mean when all of your stool is finally 100% solid and you only go once or twice a day, but one of those is usually urgent and you have minor cramping in your right side? What is going on in the colon?

I tested positive for C. Diff and just am finishing up a two week course of vancomycin, and after almost a year of frequent, urgent, profuse watery diarrhea with painful cramps, I've had almost complete symptom resolution with the exception of what's mentioned above. It's not perfect, but I am ecstatic and hope this continues.

I had very similar symptoms about a month ago, didn't think much of it. Then 2 stools a day turned into 3/4, started getting more gas and then there was a little bit of blood. Now i'm in the middle of a minor flare which seems to be getting worse, 4/5 watery stools a day with blood, frequent stomach cramps and significantly reduced appetite. Definitely keep an eye on your symptoms as this could be a sign of the start of a flare. Try to take extra care of yourself - get a good amount of sleep, avoid foods that could worsen your symptoms and try to not get stressed. I think my flare was caused by stress and not looking after myself properly. Hope things get back to normal soon :)

messthezombie -as mentioned in my post, I've been in a flare for almost a year. Lol. These symptoms are a massive improvement.

quincy -I am currently on 40mg of Prednisone, and that's the only med. Doc plans on moving me to Remicade ASAP, but I had to have some dental work done first. Unfortunately I then tested positive for C Diff, so had to start Vancomycin, which I finished today.

iPoop -is it possible that it's the Prednisone masking the symptoms? It REALLY sucks, but I've been on this dose of Pred since the middle of September. For the first several weeks the Pred did nothing, but then things started to get a little better. Is it possible that things are still only seeming to get better because of the Pred? Does Pred have a cumulative effect like that after months?

I really, REALLY want this improvement I'm experiencing to be legit. Especially with such an abrupt and almost complete turnaround after being treated with Vancomycin for the C Diff. For the first time in over a year, I've had nothing but solid log/ snake/ ribbon poop for almost two weeks. Before the Vanc the closest I'd come were 'fluffy bits and pieces' mixed with watery globs on the good days, and just straight urgent diarrhea on the bad days. So I'm really, really hoping it's not just the Pred.

At the same time I don't want to get my hopes up.

If you're only on 40mgs of pred and seeing solid stool with 1-2 bms a day, then the only thing it really tells you is that you respond well to prednisone. A lot of us do feel normal and in a remission-like-state when on prednisone. The key is what works for your maintenance medication as you lower the pred dose. I hope that's remicade which you plan to start soon.

You can heal while on prednisone, as pred suppresses the immune system and has anti-inflammatory properties while you're on it. It's really the same with any ulcerative colitis treatment whether that's a medicine, diet or alternative, should you cease that treatment then your uc symptoms return. Just that pred is temporary.
