Mesalazine enema and pred foam enema

Hello all,

Currently in a mild flare (blood on tissue paper with bit of mucus). Came off rectal foam mesalazine 2 weeks ago (after 6 weeks on tx where symptoms resolved). Don't know how long to take the predfoam for and how to taper off. Anyone got any clues?

Why did you taper off of the rectal foam mesalazine if it was working? That can be used as a maintenance treatment for UC pretty much indefinitely...

Generally, you can be on pred foams for up to a couple months continuously. A taper isn't always needed, you can do every other day if you must taper.

Gosh I envy that you have the mesalamine foam (yes it has come to envying people for their drug access..lol) Seriously though, if the mesalmine foam was working of you, I would try to find a maintenance dose and stick with it.

As far as predfoam it depends...your flare sounds pretty mild...maybe 1X/day for a week or two. However check with your dr just to be sure. Oh and for such a short time a taper isn't required but I like to taper anyway just to be cautious.

Finally do you think you could resolve this flare by using the mesalmine foam 2X/day?
