They have done a large gene study with 5000 PSC people in Norway to identify the link between PSC and UC.

While they found many regions of the genome are associated with both PSC and IBD risk, they found others that were only associated with risk of PSC.

This indicates that there are unique aspects to the biology of PSC and that the disease is not simply caused by IBD. Link here for anyone interested.

Right...it's never caused by UC (poorly stated that it is in the article) except there is a link ..... like there is a link with asthma and eczema. When I did reading about it almost 20 years ago, it mentioned not all UCers will get PSC but about 80 % with PSC have UC (this article says 75%) . What comes first is what I question.

Great a genome link is found....

One thing having a diagnosis of PSC with UC...the likelihood of bowel cancer increases .
