Hello All. This is my first post. I have been in a UC flare and my GI has me taking budesonide and mesalamine (3 ways). Since November I have had 3 CRP blood tests done. All 3 came back 192 mg/l. I find my identical results suspect especially given my meds. I'm wondering if labs make mistakes. Even my Rheumatologist thought the first one might be an error. He has me taking methotrexate, plaquenil and enbrel. Can I really have such a high number when I'm feeling better. Anyone have any thoughts?

high is not impossible, but identical is suspect. do you have copies of results? are other values changing?

DBwithUC, thanks for your reply. I havn't repeated the full blood work panel as yet. Just the CRP. I'm due to get it done and I will compare the results with the last ones. Thanks for the suggestion.

What is your ESR they sort of go together.
CRP is an acute phase reactant, half life about 18 hours.

Old Mike, My GI didn't order the ESR test. I'll check on it.

A percentage of the population always gets inaccurate CRP readings. Has CRP always worked for you in the past or is it new to you?

An alternative is to have a fecal calprotectin stool test done.

A flexible-sigmoidoscopy is always more accurate than any blood or stool test but of course a heck of a lot more invasive.

iPoop, I did have a colonoscopy 6 weeks ago. It showed moderate left sided UC. Thats when I started the budesonide and rawaasa, plus started increasing my methotrexate. The blood and diarrhea have stopped but my CRP didn't go down. Tomorrow I'll call my Doc and ask him what he is thinking about the CRP results. I'll let you all know what happens.

Hello All, fyi my 4th crp test was 0.09. And I am doing better. I cross my fingers that my flare is over.
