I assume you're referring to PharmacistWithUc's signature. A LFT is a hepatic function panel (lft) blood test. If one has raised LFT's then it's a sign of a bad reaction to a medication as your liver is having a bad reaction. Blood abnormalities are a rare side effect of mesalamine and occur with less than 1 percent of patients. Discontinue that medication and then the blood tests return to normal.
Balsalazide and Asacol ultimately have the same active ingredient, anti-inflammatory mesalamine. How that medication is delivered is the biggest difference between them. Asacol is mesalamine which has a ph-based delayed release coating on it, that releases medication in the large intestine. Balsalazide is a more complex molecule that's broken down by gut bacteria into mesalamine and a byproduct.
