Why am I still bleeding

Hi I'm fairly new here but can't find my last post .I'm not sure about my diagnosis of proctitis. I was diagnosed in November after 4 months of blood with bm and mucus without bm , no pain or diahrreah .my biopsies on my sigmoidoscopy were all normal .I'm still waiting on a follow up appointment with the consultant. I have been reading about the main cause of proctitis is std's . Looking at the symptoms of clamydia I have noticed I do ahave some of the symptoms and have done without paying much attention to them for many years . Could I possibly have had it and it lay dormant ( I've been with my husband for 20 years). I still get occasional bleeding probably 2-3 times a week but did stop completely for around 3-4 weeks despite using 1x500mg of asacol suppositories a day.

I can't imagine that you could have chlamydia for all this time and not know. Have you been going to the OBGYN yearly or biyearly? They test for STIs with annual pap usually. If you've been with your husband for 20 years, do you think you've had it all this time, or do you think you both acquired it at some point more recently? Over the 20 years, I would think you would have had a swab at some point and it would have been treated. Have you ever been on antibiotics? Some of them would get rid of chlamydia, in 20 years, you may have taken doxycycline, that would treat it... Plus, i just looked it up and the symptoms are very vague, anyone could think they've had them - like spotting or discharge, people have this normally at different times of the month. You should go to the OB and get a swab.

It is also possible the biopsies weren't of an active area. When I had proctitis, there was literally a spot smaller than a dime. That was what was causing the bleeding. If they didn't biopsy that exact spot, it would have looked normal elsewhere.

I am not saying it's impossible, but you need to go get a swab to find out... If that is the situation, you need to treat your husband too. It would actually be good if you could take some antibiotics and be done with the IBD nightmare forever. Hoping for good luck for you - but untreated STD can cause PID and you would know if you had that. 20 years is a long time...

Call and ask your doctor's office. Same goes for testing for stds. You may not have one but it's eastly to get a test and verify.
