You will almost certainly have some side effects from the prednisone. It can take a few weeks for them to show up and the longer you are on it, the more you get. But the severity of them varies widely from person to person.
Eight weeks is a pretty normal length of time, but it will take about
that long to taper off of it after the eight weeks. You have to slowly reduce the dose each week. The doctor is probably not including that in the 8 weeks he or she quoted you.
There are significant side effects to prednisone (there is a thread on here recently talking about
that) but if you are on short term, like 8 weeks, they will all go away. Long term use can cause serious side effects like weakening of your bones.
If the problem is confined to your left side, you could try a steroid enema. Much less side effects compared to oral steroids.
