From the crazy gas we pass and funky noises at times I'd say this is quite accurate! haha. I was wondering about this last night to be perfectly honest. I seem to have pretty bad headaches that correspond to something going on in the 'gut', weird smelling ummm.. gas occurs and then a day or so later things seem to re-adjust or whatever and the headaches subsides.

Anyway, was interesting for them to study the changes over time.

How do you change the community of microbes in your gut?

If you read this I wanted to share on here a Facebook post about the article form one of the MAP researchers:

"The gut microbiome seems to be the new black for research into Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The question that is never answered however is what comes first – the IBD or the change in the microbiome. A just published article http://www.nature.com/articles/nmicrobiol20174 has a least looked at the microbiome of IBD patients and healthy controls over time. Two interesting points – the microbiome of IBD patients changes a lot, sometimes it is the same as healthy controls sometimes it is not. The second is that there is no correlation between faecal calprotectin levels and how different a IBD patient’s microbiome is from that of a healthy control."

It's the second point that I thought you would find intriguing. We keep saying that 'inflammation must be driving the change'

I can say, as above, to me it seems my gut goes through these changes even though I have no mucus and am in remission. I thought that was a very sharp observation on the Map Researchers part.

I sure would love to have insight on what is going on inside me bacterially (and fungally, if it matters). They say we have more cells in our entire constitution that are not our own than we do our own cells. Not by volume of course as human cells must be larger- but by number. The more recent estimates are of about an equal number- but either way the fact is we are composite beings, part Homo sapiens and part bacteria...

Barring the fact that we all seem to vary in many respects, can anyone say for sure what bacteria we are agreeably- if that exists- both deficient in and suffering from excess of? I have been recently relying on an evolving blend of things mixed in psillum fiber- as I feel that stuff slows motility and is most gentle passing through the colon, and therefore might be a good vector for many things shown to be beneficial to colon health, including probiotics. Though a pill and even possibly a delayed release type would likely be food to try in conjunction, perhaps something that comes as a powder would blend well with psyllium.
