"This is an observational reality response. Not a good start for you to want positive (what the hell does that mean anyway?) with your
opening sentence.
Get real...you're starting off perfectly. Welcome.
My suggestion is to read more threads in the forum than to expect it all in one thread.
qive been viewing this forum for quite a while now. I usually keep to reddit. The only brightside we have is remission so im not really seeing your attacking stance. More of a great start for you in keeping me on this forum
I have read so many threads in here and on reddit and sometimes see the remission responses but when I come to a website such as this, sometimes I question the reality of the statistics of this disease. OBVIOUSLY it is as bad as we know it is, but I think many people who are controlled well via diet and meds dont come to these forums... It is usually the people seeking advice and going through a rough patch that find themselves here.
From the CCFA website:
In a given year:
48% of people with ulcerative colitis are in remission
30% have mild disease activity
20% have moderate disease activity
1% to 2% have severe disease (1)
Seventy percent of patients who have active disease in a given year will have another episode of active disease in the following year. Only 30% of those in remission in a given year will have active disease in the following year. The longer a person with ulcerative colitis remains in remission, the less likely he or she is to experience a flare-up of the disease in the following year.
I am sure most of us have seen these statistics... but when I visit this forum, I get the feeling that like 10-15% of people are in remission when that is just not the case.
