A few weeks ago I posted in here about my boyfriend's UC and the possibility that he might need to up his dose in Remicade. Right now he's on 7.5mg every 8 weeks and 2 tablets of Lialda in the morning. When I came on here I was asking if diet modification would possibly hep him along to remission quicker.
Since then we had a really good talk and he stopped drinking alcohol except once in a blue moon for special occasions. We've been going to the gym a lot more regularly too! We started cooking a few times a week with turmeric, He's eating things with probiotics and he cut out high fructose corn syrup and trans fat. when they first upped his dose the only thing he did differently was add vitamin D and magnesium supplements.
A few days ago he said he was excited for summer because he believes he'll be in remission again and he wants to try and eat corn on the cob again and see how he tolerates it. My question is how will he truly know when he's in remission? Right now he says he goes about twice a day and the urgency is subsiding. He won't tell me the consistency but he hasn't had blood in a while.
He's got his next GI appointment in early April and 3 weeks before his next infusion. His GI might take him back to the 5mgs if he thinks he's back to remission but that worries me because when he was on the low dose before and it wasn't enough he flared. WIll his GI want to test the levels with a Prometheus test to be safe before he lowers the dose? Also if he has truly reached remission will he be able to tell when he needs his next infusion or will he be symptom free even the last few days leading up to the next infusion?
