Cali: thoughts on your insurance. Looking for a good one

I'm in the market for better insurance. I figured the best place to get some feedback regarding health plans and ulcerative colitis care.

I'd love to read some rants and some raves about different companies and different plans. Who covers well, who doesn't, etc.

Did you mean Cali as in California insurance? If so, then definitely check with your doctors. I went and got a policy last year on the "open market" and then found out that there were very few specialists that took it because they considered it to be Obamacare (technically, it wasn't, but it was governed by the ACA or something like that) and they didn't like the payout and didn't accept it. So the policy ended up being okay as far as coverage, but not as far as finding specialists that would accept it, and THAT was a real issue. Anything you buy in California on the open market will have this problem (well, maybe don't quote me on that but that was my understanding). I had asked when I bought the policy if it was Obamacare, and they assured me it was not. Technically they were right, but in practicality, it didn't matter. As I recall, it was any of the plans with a "metal" name i.e, bronze, silver, etc. Mine was either Blue Shield or Blue Cross, I forget which now. And oh yeah, they were a pain with medications, too. Kept having to "review" the doctor's orders to make sure it was medically necessary or not and they took their sweet time about it, and most of the time, denied it and then you'd have to go through an appeal.
