Some members here have said that prednisone gave them permanent diabetes. Other members said that their blood sugar returned back to normal after stopping the pred. I am prediabetic with diabetes in my family and refuse to take pred no matter what. But I would guess that you taking only 2.5 g of prednisone would not push you into the diabetic range.
I measure my fasting blood sugar each morning to keep myself honest food wise. The real reason why I am so vigilant with diet is because I am more afraid of diabetes than UC. I can save money on test strips by purchasing them thru the internet. Not all testing meters measure blood consistently and accurately but below are some that are rated highly. Nothing is more frustrating than two blood measurements, one minute apart, from the same pinprick, to differ by 20-30 points!
At your next blood test make sure it includes your fasting glucose number, which will be accurate, as well as your A1C. A1C will give your average blood sugar for the past 3 months.
