Bleeding for 1st time in years

It's been nearly 3 years since I last had any UC symptoms, but a few days ago I noticed some blood on the paper, then it went away for a day and was back yesterday and today.

Should I change anything with my diet now? It's been a while since I've had to deal with this so I'm a little rusty.

I'm taking 50mg of Mercaptopurine and also on Eliquis (blood thinner) so I know I'll bleed more than usualy. On another note, a couple months ago I had shingles, which I think was probably from being on the Mercaptopurine.

Diet definitely affects bleeding for me but the first thing would be to use rectal meds (mesalamine enema is best but if you want to try Canasa suppositories maybe they will nip it).They can be expensive unless you have a great insurance plan but I keep them in the fridge as backup.

If diet is your first choice then my advice is eliminate fiber for a week and see if it helps. Give your colon softer foods to process. Good luck.

I don't believe it's diet...

Is the bleeding only on tp? On stool in toilet?

Definitely get on nightly rectal meds...enemas would be best.

What other symptoms in the past few weeks .....excessive gas, bloating, constipation, stomach discomfort?

Hope you didnt suffer with a bad case of shingles. Where did it present on your body?

50 mgs of 6MP is a very low dose (75 to 100 mgs is more typucal depending on body weight). Ditto prescription mesalamine enemas (rowasa/pentasa/salofalk enemas) or suppositories (canasa).

Sorry about the typo. I'm taking 2 50mg tablets. I used to take rowasa and still have some, but they're long past their date.

Bleeding is only on tp and everything else is completely normal. I had gas once last week, but other than that I've felt fine. I've been kind of in disbelief with going through this again.

The shingles was on my right side on my back and chest. The rash is almost gone, but there are still some elements left.

Aside from the expensive prescription rectal meds, anything OTC I can try?

If it's only on the tp, it might be a fissure.

Could be a flare and could be hemorrhoids (any history of those?)
