Looped colonoscope

Just wondering if this has happened to other people. I had an extremely painful colonoscopy because scope got looped. They kept on giving me more and more sedation. On the report it said scope was technically difficult because of looping of scope.

Is this just some random complication? or is because the GI doc made a mistake during scope?

Yes it happened to me when I had my colonoscopy in March, I did not have sedation just gas and air which is offered here in the UK.

Apparently my colon is very twisty and it got quite painful to the point the gastroenterologist was struggling and said to abandon the procedure. He put on the report that the procedure was abandoned due to in tolerability of looping. I was fine in the beginning but when the scope advanced through the transverse colon I could not cope any further.

I've heard that "significant looping" can make a scope difficult, but an experienced gastro should know what to do about it, such as increasing sedation, changing the patient's position on table, and 2 or 3 other possible interventions. Of course having to put these alternatives into play results in a more expensive scope when billing for the procedure gets done. / Old Hat (36 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
