Bacterial Infection and UC

I've been having what I thought was a flare (mostly just mucus and blood) a little over a month ago. I went to my regular doctor and was diagnosed with internal hemorroids. Did proctofoam and prednisone. That didn't work so we upped the prednisone and that still didn't work.

So last week they finally did a stool sample and blood work. My doctor called Tuesday and said I had a bacterial infection ( I believe she said aeromonas) and prescribed Ciprofloxacin 750 mg.

When I called to ask questions the nurse told me that she said basically it would take too long to go over it over the phone. She didn't have any openings and my GI appointment is this Tuesday.

I looked it up and I'm not sure what to think. Some of what I read makes me worry and stress. And with my anxiety my mind goes out to left field with what ifs. I'm sure if it was really bad she would have me come in....right??

I think DB is right Take the antibiotic and get rid of that bacteria! I would be happy if it was a bacteria and not my UC personally. Usually that's a godsend, but sometimes it's both, and eradicating the bacteria doesn't fix everything. You must wait and see i guess. I wish you good luck.

when i was flaring for about 10 months and nothing was working,i was admitted to hospital,i was given cortisteroids through iv and it didnt worked.then they gave me Racecadotril,an antidiarrheal drug.about 6 caps per day and i was feeling better after 2,3 days and after 10 days i was feeling much better,BM"s decreased,blood and mucus stopped.again in jan when another flare started,nothing worked again,not even pred.then again last month my doc gave me Rifaximin 400 and i was fine again in just a week now just 1 or 2 BM per day with no blood or mucus
