Well I've decided to give FMT the old college try. I've honed in on a donor. They have no history of gastrointestinal or autoimmune issues, healthy weight, good diet, no exposure to antibiotics in the past five years, etc. Based on all these factors, my donor seems to be an excellent choice.
However, I'd like to test my donor for some communicable diseases and pathogens. I'd like to start the FMTs as soon as possible (hopefully in two to three weeks) and have therefore decided not to bother with trying to find a doctor who is willing to screen my donor. I've looked online (thepowerofpoop.com) and found some recommended tests to purchase from a lab that doesn't require a doctor's authorization to help ensure I won't unknowingly infect myself.
I have currently ordered a GI pathogen profile and a H. Pylori antigen stool test.
With these tests, I'll be able to test my donor for 23 viruses, parasites and bacteria (including C. diff, H. pylori, E. coli, cryptosporidium, salmonella, etc.).
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on any other tests that should be ordered to help minimize any risks associated with this. I'll still need to have my donor's blood tested to rule out things such as hepatitis, HIV, etc.
Still nervous about whether I'm taking a huge risk here. Hopefully it works.
