Thank You All

First I wanted to say I have been enlightened to a whole new world of warriors when getting on this site. At first it terrified me because I read so many of your posts desperate for help and information. I thought this site was way too serious for my mild proctitis. Ultimately the mild proctitis was not as easy to treat as I had thought and although I am seeing an IBD specialist from an IVY league med school that practices at one of the best hospitals in the nation, he was not as helpful as all of you.

I am currently taking balsalazide 2/2x per day (failed Lialda)- I tried a new ASA because you all convinced me that sometimes people tolerate one but not the other.

I am using Rowasa every 4th night now with canasa on the other nights- Rowasa nightly is what got me in remission. My doc was toying with Uceris and other meds after cortifoam and Canasa did not help me. I asked for Rowasa because Quincy mentioned it so much. It helped me the most.

I have discovered that side effects of mesalamines go away after being on them for several weeks or months. I couldn't handle Lialda but was much more patient with balsalazide because I knew the gas etc would go away after awhile (same with Rowasa).

This is a horrible disease and I have empathy for every single one of you esp those diagnosed in their 20's. I recently got this disease in my 50's. I pray my 20 something children never inherit this!! I cannot imagine the pain, anxiety and depression you all must go through. I don't think anyone realizes how bad it can be. So today I pay tribute to all of you warriors out there fighting with a variety of meds and praying that you stay strong.

Hi....happy to hear you've found what works for you. Yeah, the rectal regimen seems archaic by many docs....i truly believe they can set us up for failure by not at least trying the mesalamine oral/rectal route initially and fair time given to allow it to work. Took me 2 years to figure it out....if my doc was impatient, i might have been med hopping to either success or failure. I'll never know.

I would suggest you stay on the enemas at every 4th night and taper the canasa slowly off.
