I was told I had "active colitis" after a scope and after 3 weeks of 40mg prednisone and mesalamine I couldn't eat anymore because the cramping would hurt too much so I went to the ER. I got diagnosed with C difficile after a stool sample.
In the USA I originally went to the doctor's because of abdominal pain which put me on antibiotics, this is around the time my stomach cramping hit unbearable levels. Perhaps this is how I got c diff? After 2.5 weeks of metronidazole I have 1-3 BMs per day which are solid-ish and cramping is minimal, usually a small pain without any urgency.
I'm in a logistical nightmare trying to get information from doctors in the USA to the doctors in Canada, where after a month I've been unable to see a gastroenterologist which is apparently regular wait times here(I miss USA healthcare).
Does it sound like I have mild UC and the C diff was giving me unbearable symptoms? I am on 30mg pred & 6x800mg Asacol per day, dropping pred soon. Or do I even have UC at all? I don't understand the difference between colitis and ulcerative colitis. At this point I'm just looking for any information / similar situations anyone has encountered because apparently it's going to be some time before I speak to a specialist :/
