I don't want to continue hijacking an earlier thread with my posts about nutritional eye support so I will consolidate them into this OT thread.

The first link is an example from a patent application that supposedly helps to mitigate macular edema by using four natural and clinically proven safe ingredients. FYI, nutritional support only. This is NOT intended to be a substitute for standard medical treatment. Left untreated macular edema can lead to blindness.

The 2nd link below discusses how LEDs from electronic devices can wreck havoc on your macula and optic nerve. If interested you can get special reading glasses to block out harmful blue light emitted by these devices. And Apple's newest iphones have the means in their settings app to reduce up to 70 percent of the blue light emissions. (Either Apple is considering the best interests of their customers or perhaps trying to avoid future lawsuits, LoL).

A 79 year old female patient, having cataract in the left eye, received cataract surgery at the beginning of 2011. Macular edema remained after the surgical procedure and the patient's vision acuity was only 20/160. The patient received oral administration of the composition of Sample 1 of Table 2, once a day for two months. It was then found that the patient's macular edema disappeared and her left eye vision acuity improved to 20/20.

A Harvard medical study states that "High Energy Visible (HEV) blue light has been identified for years as the most dangerous light for the retina. After chronic exposure, one can expect to see long range growth in the number of macular degenerations, glaucomas, and retinal degenerative diseases".

And a paper published by the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF) reports that "the blue rays of the spectrum seem to accelerate age-related macular degeneration (AMD) more than any other rays in the spectrum".

Thanks Iam: Been researching this stuff for the past year.
Good patent.
But like any other disease on this site, they really can't fix it,shoot up with biologics and
hope for the best. Lots of dangers with biologic VEGF inhibitors,besides infection from the shot
seems to be a problem with increasing all cause mortality, among other good stuff. My pretty
big name retinal doc, seems to push the shots like candy. But then again that is really all
they have to put it into remission.Also seems to get a little pissed off when I refuse. A buddy of mine
had 11 shots, now has congestive heart failure,is there a connection, I am not sure. But there is
an association in the literature.

If you are trying to avoid the glaucoma caused by those toxic meds they are shooting into your eye then you may want to supplement with bilberry and pycnogenol (pine bark). This article says that the combination helps to stave off glaucoma, but if you already have it then it will make conventional glaucoma meds such as lantanoprost about 40 percent more effective.

Even if it doesn't help, I don't think bilberry and pine bark will hurt you.

I was looking into lasik the other day and they had some sort of surgical partial treatment for macular degeneration. I was surprised. I didn't know there was anything available. it didn't sound like it would give you 20/20 or anything, but it's something that may be available for some?

My grandmother had macular degeneration and Crohns. She had surgery in both eyes to treat it, but one eye failed to show any results. She was totally blind in that eye but could see with the other one much better after the surgery.

I find this post interesting as I Have Wet Macular degeneration in both eyes, have had 3 injections of Avastin in left eye.
None in the right one so far. I do spen a Lot of time on electronic devices, so wonder if that affected it.

Julie: What do you feel with the shot. Slight pain, no pain, just a sensation.

Old Mike, sorry haven't figured out how to copy your question to reply.....I didn't have any pain, some sensation. Think the one who did the numbing prep was very determined to make sure it was numb. Once the Dr came by 2-3 times asking if I was ready & he told him No. I said, don't let him rush you & he said, Don't worry I won't. I hope he always does my numbing!! That was June 2015, left eye, havent had any since then, but he is watching right eye, saw him in Oct, go back in Dec.

Thanks Julie: Seems like if properly done little to no pain.
I am just adverse to biologsic in general.

I try to have minimal contact with doctors for CHRONIC conditions. But I recently needed medical expertise for a detached retina which is obviously an ACUTE condition. This was an emergency and I didn't have the time to check out his credentials.

This guy definitely did not reaffirm my faith in the medical establishment. Most doctors seem to be late for their appointments but I would have thought a retinal surgeon would be an exception. I waited 4 hours! in his office before he could see me. Meanwhile the infamous 'black curtain' was slowly descending down my field of vision indicating my retina was coming apart.

That was only his first screw-up. To make a long story short I now have some permanent damage to my eyesight. I decided to travel several hundred miles for a 2nd opinion to perform some auxiliary surgery to fix another one of his screw-ups.


That was my contribution in last year's HW thread started by Dikid entitled “Doctor Trouble”. I ended up with macular edema which required the permanent use of prednisone eye drops to manage it. The problem with those drops is that they can eventually cause glaucoma. My doctor wasn't particularly worried, he said that glaucoma can also be managed with more eye drops.

I began using the nutritional support in the patent application listed above along with the prescribed prednisone eye drops, and now my macula is normal. I still have a tiny oil bubble in my vision, my pupil is 'fixed' meaning that it no longer adjusts to light, and my eyesight will never quite return to normal. But my macular edema is gone and my eye doctor is astonished by the results. But he doesn't want to hear anything about the nutritional research performed by the researchers applying for the patent.
