Colitis can generally be cured. It has a cause. It is not caused by a faulty immune system - as is believed to be the cause of UC but people argue that issue.
You can have colitis from a pathogen, and cure it with an antibiotic. If you have Ulcerative Colitis, and you get a bug, and you take the same antibiotic, you will only rid yourself of the bug. You may still have active inflammation, and you are aware that even if you get a break from symptoms, they are likely to pop up again repeatedly throughout your life.
