Wonderful. There are also some cases of a spouse getting IBD after marriage to a person who
has IBD.

The Chinese came out with something similar not too long ago. They say microbiomes are similar, not that spouses are getting IBD. I have several theories on why but all are just guesses. I'd love to see what happens where one spouse is vegan while the other is not.

Why would vegan have anything to do with anything?

What I meant was I would like to see a comparison of spouses with vastly different diets from one another to see if there are similarities in their microbiomes.

My husband was diagnosed with Crohn's about
10 years ago, has been on Balsalazide ever since and has not had a flare for about
8 years. He went vegan about
two months ago after watching too many shows on Netflix ;-) (really he is trying to lower his fasting blood sugar which is still higher than desired). He is in otherwise great shape.
I was diagnosed with IBD/UC almost two years ago, although I think I have had issues for much longer, just never severe. We have been married for almost 20 years. I did the Ubiome thing, I will see if he will do it if they are still accepting new participants.

Interesting. I never really had any gut issues at all but my husband has IBS. Then out of no where, (post antibiotics and pred for asthma) I had my first flare up in 2013. We had been married for 14 years at the time, but I am the one with a family history of IBD but other than food sensitivities I had the best digestive system. I wonder if things worked the other way around for me...

In our case, DW's gut flora was never great but so far she doesn't have those hallmark bugs, but showed up in DS' gut a year ago. I am so worried.
