Hey guys! So I'm a 24 year old male and I just got diagnosed with UC in my entire colon. No polyps or anything else but needless to say it's been hard on my new engineering job. I started Apriso and prednisone a week ago with no improvements and my mornings are extremely painful. Once the meds kick in its bareable. Just wanted to see if there was significant improvement in the first week for you. Thanks!

Not for the mesalamine. Did see relief from pred after a few days but more after a 5-6 days.

The treatement is going to be least effective in the lower sigmoid and rectum which is the biggest driver of urgency. You may want to add an enema to insure you are fit for a new job.

if it does not improve in a 1-2 month after adding rectal med, I would go directly for a biologic. Protecting a new job, and access to insurance that it brings is not an issue to take lightly.

Welcome to the forum but sorry you hace UC like we do!

Patience. Your medications might take 3-4 weeks to produce big results. To be fully healed might take a few months. There's no instant gratification with crohnic illness. What there is, is lots of trial-and-error. Your doctor may not get it right the first time, second time, or sometimes even the third time. As what works varies so wildly person to person.

What dose of prednisone are you taking? If you're not getting relief you could ask your doc to up your dosage of pred to help get things under control if you're not on too high a dose now.
