Switching from Delzicol to Mesalamine DR

I have been doing ok with 12 delzicol/day and 75 mg 6mp/day. Now insurance decided to stop paying for delzicol and wants me to switch. Doctor prescribed 4 Liala/day and CVS gave me generic Mesalamine DR instead.

I know it may work fine but so concern to rock the boat. It took 1 and 1/2 year to get where I am today. So far I was lucky that insurance covered Delzicol. I know lot of you had to switch while back.

What are your experiences with Mesalamine DR? Thank you all for your input.

Worth trying...and are you on rectals as well? Something to consider possibly.....can't remember if you tried them in the past.
I freaked when they gave me generic asacol, but no problems at all.

Switching mesalamines can be uneventful or it could cause problems. I know when the Mesalamine DR first came out and their Lialda was auto-substituted with it, there was a post where some folks were worried and some did experience issues. /www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=38&m=2314639

I was recently switched to Mesalamine after first using Asacol then Delzicol for years. The Mesalamine ...along with a low dose of prednisone and Donnatal, relieved my symptoms...for now. I had a flare a few weeks ago and for right now, seem to be doing fine. I do NOT like having to take prednisone!! But, anything to get past a flare. One thing about Mesalamine...it is much easier to take one big pill three times a day, than taking two big ole pills 4 x a day. Give it a try with hope and I wish you the best with it.

Quincy- I always keep Rowasa and Canasas on hand and I have used them before.

I am appealing the decision and doctor is on board but his staff never done it so they are lazy. I may not have choice but to use it.

My insurance also forced me off of Asacol and I went to Asacol HD, and then they forced me off of Asacol HD and I went to Lialda, and then they forced me into generic Lialda (Mesalamine DR).

If anything I have been doing much better after switching from the Asacols to Lialda, and I have noticed no changes going from brand Lialda to generic "Mesalamine DR"

@UCinGV- Good to know that you are doing fine with the switch. Make me little more comfortable. I still have few weeks of Delzicol and I am appealing to caremark's decision but if it does not work, it's good to know that it worked for some. Thanks.

PamSmith, my switch from Lialda to generic Mesalamine DR was also uneventful.

@ipoop-Thank you. I do follow you very closely for your treatment(as I started 6 mp around same time you did and then you had to move to remicade) and your advice. I also heard about generic mesalamine DR from you.
