Completely blocked after flexible sigmoidoscopy

I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy 12 days ago and since then I have been completely blocked.

Last week (immediately after) I was was only going to the toilet every two days and feeling very bloated/uncomfortable. On Sunday night (around a week after) I woke up in extreme pain from cramps (the worst I've ever had) and very bad D. The whole thing lasted around an hour on/off and was really quite awful!

Since Sunday night I've not been to the toilet once. Not once - I have never gone this long without going, even before and during my UC diagnosis I usually go at least once a day and in the morning.

I am on day 4 without even the urge to pass a bowel movement. I don't feel bloated or any discomfort at all - I feel completely normal. This is so unlike me and usually if I miss a bowel movement one day I'm in a lot of pain and discomfort the next day.

Is this a normal side effect of the FS? I'm quite worried as I've never had this before and nothing I do seems to get it moving.

What were the results of the s-scope? Are you on rectal meds?

Definitely call the doc, keep us posted.

it is not a normal effect. because system is cleaned out, it may take a while before normal stool resumes. But you history constitutes a special case.

Are you eating? I agree with the others, definitely get seen ASAP.

It came back completely clear - no inflammation whatsoever, which I was not expecting as I had been in a lot of pain until then. I'll link my separate post about this below.

I switch between mesalazine enemas and suppositories, and I'm on asacol tablets

Yep, eating completely normally. I'm on day 5 now and still no movement.

if there were no signs of inflammation, then you either have IBS, or inflammation higher in the colon, or some other non-IBD/IBS cause of blockage.

With a history of constipation, there may be less worry about current constipation - but it does seem odd and long.

You need some sort of imaging to see how much and where stool is in you system. Best if you can schedule, but if this goes much longer, ER might be advisable.
