Arcoxia (etoricoxib) use with UC?

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone can help me a little. I have UP very well controlled (no flares for a year and a half), but 9 months ago I started to get lower back pain that became allmost unbearable in December and I'm now getting blood works and an MRI to see if I have Ankylosing Spondylitis (my dad was HLA B27 positive). While I get all the results, the rheumatologist has put me on Arcoxia (etoricoxib, a cox2 inhibitor NSAID), 1 pill of 90 mg each night. He told me that this drug doesn't affect so much the UC as Ibuprofen or Naproxen, but I'm a little affraid to take it and ruin my for now well managed UP.

Does anyone have had some experience taking this kind of NSAIDS cox2 inhibitors? Did it worsens your UC?

I would thank some advice if anyone can help!

There's an increased slight increased risk of a UC flare as the result of a NSAID or a COX-2-inhibitor. Do some of us still take them? Sure sparingly and/or on a limited basis. Of the two, the COX-2-inhibitor would be the safer based on research (if you have a choice).

Thank you Ipoop for the link. Yes, Arcoxia is a 2 cox inhibitor. I have taken it for 2 days now, and for the moment everything is fine in my bowels... I guess I will have to experiment with it to see how longer I can take it without worsening my UP.
