Terrible acne on prednisone?

Is it normal to get terrible acne on prednisone? Because ever since taking it my acne has been awful and my face is breaking out more and more each day. Mainly on my forehead, but also my cheeks and even my chest. I’m currently tapering so I’m hoping that it goes away after I’m off which is in 3 weeks. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks

Yes acne is a side effect of prednisone. Unfortunately prednisone has a lot of terrible side effects, mine was always moon face!

I never really had acne in any amounts as a teenager while growing up. However, on prednisone I had a horrible acne outbreak in my 30's: face, neck, and shoulders. Prednisone is a hormone, and it can drive some hormonal-acne that is hard to treat with conventional acne treatments. Once you lower your dose and get off of pred, the acne should go away. It sucks though, sorry you have to deal with that plus a UC flare! Just know it's temporary and blame it on the pred!

I had such bad acne last time I was on prednisone, I swear, I nearly opted for surgery to never deal with that type of acne again. It was these big welts that scar. It got so bad that i would actually avoid leaving my house. I am old enough that people wouldn't expect me to have acne like that. It looked worse than the acne of an acne-prone teenager going through puberty. it was crazy. It took a really long time to heal too. As you get older, scars stick around longer.
