So I’m tapering off prednisone and taking asacol orally and rectally daily. I am currently in remission. My gi changed the rectal medication to 3 times a week. Ever since then I have been noticing that my stools aren’t formed anymore. They are very mushy and almost dirreah like. I’m not sure if it’s because of this and not other factors but my diet is pretty much the same as 3 weeks ago when I had formed stools. It’s also not the prednisone because even while I was tapering my stools were very formed. Please Help! I am super discouraged right now and I genuinely don’t want to take rectal medication for the rest of my life in order to remain in remission.

If your symptoms are consistently worse (not just one bad day, but 4-5 days) after tapering down your prednisone dosage then it is possible that your maintenance medications are not enough without the prednisone.

I think we all agreed that calling it remission while on prednisone is a ticking time bomb. It sounds to me like you need to consider drugs in addition to your Asacol and rectals. If you can get off the prednisone and use rectals nightly, I'd personally considering that a huge relief, but i have a feeling you would backslide once you were off the prednisone, considering you've been unable to get to zero without symptoms resurfacing.

um sorry, butt according to the official UC rule book, you are definitely not -
bit confused here - are you currently (like today) using enemas 3 times/week or 7 times/week ?

Same question as TT
Just to add.....if you insist on saying you are in remission, you are actually in a denial, plain and simple.
