After 18 years with UC I have arrived at the point of Vitamin deficiencies, but I suspect they have been present for quite some time. It has been a thought of mine for years, but never asked about it. It seems that these deficiencies shoudl be monitored from the onset of the disease process...
I was referred to a rheumatologist for serious thumb joint arthritis pain, and they done a bunch of lab work. I am Vit D deficient and B-12 deficient, quite severely I am told. I have taken 1 B-12 injection and am awaiting directives for Vit D. I wouldn't be surprised if the Vit D is injection as well, because I obviously am not absorbing the way I should...:-(
The rheumatologist wants to start me on Methotrexate and have me stop Imuran, and is going to contact my Gastro to get this approved. I am still on Imuran even though it failed me after 2-3 years, until Humira gets me stabilized...if it is going to.
I am told the methotrexate works well with Humira for some folks, and I am hoping so, because I have been taking Humira for about 6-8 weeks and am in a flare since 1/22.
And then they mentioned that I will also be taking Folic Acid with Metho.
Upside is, I am looking forward to vitamin levels coming back up, bacause I do alot of cycling and have really been low energy and fatigued for quite some time.
Just chiming in with my exciting stuff...Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Deacon
