So for anybody who read my last post saying how I had diarrhea while on remicade, or for anyone that hasn’t, I have basically been having a bad flare for a few months now and they put me on remicade and I’ve had my second infusion. Basically I haven’t had any improvements at all which is understandable because it’s so early to tell. Anyways my gi is putting me on Budesonide rather than prednison due to the fewer side effects. But I’m worried that after I’m off of the Budesonide that remicade will not be enough to retain remission just as what happened when I got off prednisone ( was taking asacol and prednisone). Is it possible that once I reach remission that remicade alone will be enough to retain remission? Without the Budesonide? Let me know what you think.

Sure it's possible, and the odds are in your favor as 65% respond to remicade. Are you on any other medications now besides remicade? I ask as I achieved a remission with the combination of remicade, 6MP, Lialda, Rowasa, and pred simultaneously.

Buedisone is a weaker medication that pred is, is a fixed dosage that isn't tapered. It's usually an 8-week course than done. Pred is best for moderate to severe inflammation. Buedisone is best for mild to slightly moderate inflammation.

Yes I am on meslamine enemas as well. I was on asacol oral but they took me off because my body wouldn’t digest them.

If the Budesonide doesn't work in about 10 days, let your doc know. In all my reading, it takes a little longer than Prednisone to kick in. Nonetheless, Budesonide did nothing for me, and I had to switch to Prednisone. I am starting Humira next week, and then when we see an improvement (hopefully!), I will taper off the Prednisone. My GI basically told me that once you start getting into the class of drugs we are on, it's unlikely Budesonide will be enough.
