Hey guys I'm going to set up my final surgery and takedown this annoying loop ileostomy. My apt is april 24th so I'm assuming I'll go in for surgery in mid May. My question is im coaching American Legion baseball and that begins first week of June. Now I'm assistant coach so I'm not needed to be fully active I just wanna be around the team and help in anyway. How was everyone's experience in getting back to doing things such as this where there's no physical activity really involved but you were up and about? It will only be about 2 to weeks after surgery

I went to a holiday party just a couple weeks after my takedown. I wasn't 100%, and I did have to use the bathroom there once, but so what? It was great to finally get out and enjoy myself, eat what I want, be free of the bag, and free of UC... That said, it really is independent. Some people have problems, or complications, but I think there's probably a pretty good chance you will be ready to get out for a couple hours at a time at least. Hopefully you have access to a bathroom. In the beginning, I had such a low capacity.

I just joined this forum after having my j-pouch surgery back in 2005. I wanted to start communicating with others who have had or are considering having the surgery. First, congrats on choosing the surgery. I think you will find live much more liveable and enjoyable. To answer your question, you will be sore for a few weeks and your body overall will be weak as it is from any major surgery, so take it easy. But, the weight off your shoulders of knowing UC is behind you is an awesome feeling.

I am considering j-pouch surgery...roughly how long from start to finish until y’all felt physically 💯, if ever?
I am a career firefighter. The surgeons have all said that they believe I can get back to work, I have my doubts.

You will have lifting restrictions following each or 2 or 3 surgeries (depending on health).

Good luck with your surgery let us know how it goes. I am on step 2 out of 3 and still recovering surgery was March 19 and there is no way I could return back to work. Lifting and walking alone is difficult the first surgery was Dec 12 and I recovered in about 3 to 4 weeks tops. Everyone is different I have a friend that had no problems with his second the first was his long recovery. He also said the 3rd was nothing compared to the first then second.

Everyone is different I am learning that on this forum. Know your body and talk to your doctor regarding any concerns.
