Here is my original post - "GI doc put me on Prednisone (7 day regimen), Cipro 500 mg 1 tablet 2x a day, Metronidazole 500 mg 1 tablet 3x a day as well as my normal med Colazal 3 tablets 3x a day. Discontinue Rowasa due to very sore bum. I hope this works. I just want to poop like a normal person not to mention I am tired of changing my underwear."
Here is today's update - Started the meds on Saturday, felt bad on Sunday, Monday was better with 5 normal poops but all somewhat urgent. Today I have extreme urgency and have gone 4x in two hours. I thought the meds were suppose to help??? I had to cancel another appt for today because I am afraid to leave the house. Please, any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Why does your Doc think you have an infection?

So sorry to hear. It always stinks to be a prisoner of your own disease because of BS like this. What's your diet like? Can you go to liquid for a minute just until you can get some of your other symptoms under control?
When I was having really bad urgency, my doctor put me on steroidal enemas, which REALLY helped me within about
two days. I can handle the runny poos and achey pains but the urgency is the WORST.

I'm wondering if it's the antibiotics that are causing the urgent and frequent bms? They can temporarily do that...

I hear they can really tear up your stomach and cause some digestive issues. It wouldn't surprise me...

Thank you all for your replies! Wouldn't you think the doctor would have been smart enough to put me on something that wouldn't create more havoc? I take the meds exactly as prescribed and always with food. I'm so upset and frustrated I don't know what to do.

I suggest you call the doc and state your frustration. Are you using external med for your butt?
I hope the doc is able to tweak your meds. Did you test positive for anything that would require the antibiotic?

Do you have diverticulitis? Maybe that is the infection?

If you are on antibiotics it is a good idea to take a good probiotic. Antibiotics destroy the good bacteria in the gut. Even people without UC get diarrhea from them.
