Fecal transplants for C. Difficile

I thought this was old news but apparently some readers are surprised by this finding published in today's NY Times

Having just gotten over c-diff, I can tell you what the Mayo protocol is for fecal transplant.

So if you test positive, the first step is 2 weeks of Vancomycin. If that doesn't get rid of it, they give you 6 weeks of vanco with a 2 week dificid "chaser", as they call it. If that fails, only then will they do a fecal transplant.

The stinkin' spores can survive for 6 weeks, so that is why they do vanco for 6 weeks if you reinfect.

I had c-diff 4 times after picking it up in our small local hospital.
Vanco only worked partially for me and the only thing that really cleared it for me was when I was included in an FMT program at our Mcmaster hospital.

For me it was certainly a life saver and would recommend FMT not only for the c-diff but also for UC.
