Just wanted to write this in case it hasn't been covered! I have been coming off prednisone and I'm down to 5mg. I decided to try pregnenolone cream 15mg because I read that it helps with stress, and stress is usually the thing that starts my flares. Within 3 days of using it before bedtime, my bleeding stopped for the first time in over a year. I still have some frequency because my bowel is scarred, but the bleeding and consistency are way better. And I have literally tried everything. All modern meds have failed me, all I've had is prednisone.
Then I did more research and found out that pregnenolone is what they used to use before prednisone was invented, and it's way safer. You can take between 20-50mg of preg with no problems. The body uses preg to metabolize the other hormones. It acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, helps rebuild the nervous system, and it helps raise cortisol levels if you're naturally low, which most IBD patients are. Preg is also at the top of the hormone cascade... so it becomes progesterone (which becomes cortisone), and DHEA which becomes the sex hormones. So your body takes preg and converts it to what's needed, which is pretty cool.
There's a lot more I could say but just Google it. I don't plan to use it forever, just to get me off prednisone and maybe during periods of high stress when I am probably exhausting my body's cortisol and I start getting flare symptoms. In the future, I'm going to try pregnenolone first before I try prednisone. So far it seems like pretty awesome stuff.
Just thought I'd share this with you all!
