" Just curious if there is an increase risk of side effects because I'm taking more of the medicine or is that not really the way it works." With biologics, that's a bit trickier of a question for a few reasons.
First being some use up humira at a faster rate than others(due to disease severity or a faster blood clearance of proteins within), so you might have to take weekly humira in order to maintain the same average/sustained blood concentration of humira as is recommended for ideal healing(therapeutic) affect. In that instance, your concentration and risk would be the same as the person at a lower dosage.
Second, it's usually antibodies to humira that make a bigger difference regarding side effects, not the amount of humira you are taking. As antibdy activity means your body is fighting against that medication and likely causes collateral damage in the way of aches, pains, headaches, etc. So, someone at a lower dose of Humira with antibodies is bound to experience more side effects then someone at a higher humira dose and no antibodies.
